If the only consideration were the impedance load on the amp, series wiring would be okay, but that isn’t the only consideration. When you wire speakers together in parallel you actually create two seperate circuits. The speakers are not really tied to together electrically, and each speaker is free to act independent of the other one, but so long as they create very similar loads to the amp, they will work in unison fairly well as if they were one speaker.

A series wiring scheme ties the speakers together in one circuit so that the speakers are forced to behave as one electrical load. The problem arises as the electrical signal is passed through the first speaker and is changed by this electrical load. The modified signal is then sent on to the second speaker where is is faithfully reproduced. Since neither speaker is reacting to the same electrical signal, they do not work together in unison, but rather work against each other.

The result is that these two speakers behave as a single poorly damped speaker, not a desirable sonic trait, and can also create problems in the form of back emf. I’m not saying that it can’t be done, but if fidelity is important to you, I’d advise against it. May 09,  · Hello all, Up until the weekend I owned two amps, a Cornford Hellcat and a WEM Westminster, both hardwired valve amps. I found myself in the guitar shop over the weekend and remembered reading the Jazz guitar Amps section here when I saw some Roland cube amps.

I have a much better understanding of ohm cooking. I have two combo amps. One is a Fender Superchamp X2. The one speaker out jack that the internal speaker is connected to says Minimum 8 ohms. The other amp is a Vox AC10 with a speaker out jack of 16 ohm. I found the Bugera TS On the back it has a 4ohm mono jack and a 16ohm mono jack. I know the Vox will work best through the 16 ohm mono jack. I think the Fender would work fine going to one of the jacks with the stereo switch engaged knowing that the output would only come through one of the speakers.

I think… Could I reasonably connect the Minimum 8 ohm out from the Fender to one of the mono 4 or 16 ohm jacks. The article intimated that it would be ok. Which would be better and why? Also, you mentioned several times in comments that folks should be careful or to take it easy when trying mismatched options.
